Welcome to the area dedicated to my lapidary hobby. For those not familiar with lapidary, it is cutting, polishing, or engraving stones. I’ve been interested in semi-precious and precious stones my entire life. I’ve dabbled a little in jewelry making from time to time, but didn’t really start experimenting with lapidary arts until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. I had a flat lap (a machine used for grinding and polishing stones) from years before that I got out and started experimenting with. I also found an old lapidary saw and bought it, allowing me to cut some of the rocks I’d been collecting. Since then, I’ve also bought an old ROCKS brand cabbing machine (machine designed to help cut and polish cabochons), and have worked to refurbish. Eventually, when I have the space and the money, I’ll buy a new cabbing machine to make things easier and faster. I’ve found that even if I don’t have any set use for the stones I work, that cutting and polishing them is a very relaxing thing. Its easy to spend hours sitting in front of my flat lap or my cabbing machine once I get started.
